When he is in power and has control of people around him, he didn't want to hear any bad news. People around him knew that he would always kill the messenger who brought bad news or news he didn't like at the moment. He would keep his own people guessing. He would not make any committments. In the end, the people around him would ultimately do anything just to insure their own survival. In that kind of environment, what kind of intelligence do you think he was receiving? Do you think they had independent commissions to evaluate their own capabilities and plan for various "what if" scenarios? Do you think Saddam Huessein allowed anyone in his country to know what kind of capabilities he had (including his own sons)? Do you think that we knew as much about what was going on in Iraq as his top ministers? He created a kookoo environment - would it surprise you if he was receiving kookoo intelligence? If I am right, then you can torture all his people as much as possible and there's not going to much yield in useful information. They didn't know much to begin with and a lot of the stuff they thought they knew were probably untrue. So what kind of information do you think we could be getting from those prisoners?
