A Marine has come home to give his best buddy one of his kidneys. Jason Tully has had to battle a rare disease that's taken away his kidneys and finding a match for a donor was nearly impossible, until his friend Jeremy Duncan found out he needed his help. Friends since the sixth grade Tully and Duncan never knew their true test of friendship would come to this. "He's kind of the closest friend I've ever had. We grew up together, we've been through a lot," said Duncan. Duncan is a 1st Lt. in the marines and was fighting the war in Iraq, but is on leave to help his friend. Family and fellow marines show their support in his fight for Tully's life. Tully has had a rare urological disease all his life and recently his health got worse. The 26-year old writer started dialysis and lost both his kidneys this past December. Looking for a match wasn't easy even within family members. Then his friend stepped in. "Beyond thanks there's not much I can say, he knows how I feel and he knows how much this means to me and my family and my family's let him know too," said Tully. "The strength and the support of my family has been awesome with this and my faith in God has helped me understand how important this is," Duncan said. Doctors said with any surgery there is the risk of death, but complications are minimal when someone donates an organ. Tully and Duncan are more than just a perfect match. "We have a lot of respect for patients who donate their kidney to either family members or friends. When that happens, we support that and we're just here to facilitate this gift of life," said transplant surgeon Dr. Alejandro Mejia. It will take doctors four hours to perform the laparoscopic procedure and only days to recover, but for Tully and Duncan the kidney transplant will be worth a lifetime. Because of his condition Tully has never been able to take in dairy products and he said after his transplant, having a milk shake is next. As for Duncan, he returns to Iraq this fall. * * *
