The dad seems to be a leftist. He may have meant that son was best friend of arabs, and lumping al quaeda into the mix.
Son may have had left wing anti-israel, self hating jew, college experience and decided Israel was to blame for worlds problems or he could be a CIA or Mossad agent.
I wonder if we will ever know the real truth.
Its interesting that if he was an al quaeda sympathizer that he would be executed anyway. mike

Exactly what did the dad mean when he said his son what the terrorists "best friend"?

Very revealing. I took it to mean he was anti-war. The prior incident with Al Qaeda leaves it open to even more question. Don't forget the anti-war Japanese protesters who went there and were supposed to be "hostages."
