I see what you mean.
Tasks often swap after a few milliseconds, but you are correct, at current speeds that is a lot of instructions.

Your point about Modified and Exclusive cache states is well taken too. Sometimes it is easy to forget that is the normal state of a system running steadily (as opposed to the much more busy caches when a task is starting up).
