The Navy is the authority which decides when and if to send soldier-sailors home from a conflict. Kerry did not have any say about his being discharged. If they allowed it, it meant it was an approved situation, in other words, a real wound. Three Purple Hearts do get you a ticket home. But no soldier can pick which wounds he wants. Bullets and shrapnel have minds of their own. Kery got his wounds in firefights.

Some rightwingers have accused Kerry of wounding himself. That is slander. Kerry never showed any evidence of cowardice in the Navy, on the contrary in fact, he always took offensive action, famous for charging right into enemy positions. Kery has shown courage all his life and never backed down from any tough fight. That is what we need in a president.
