Hawk - You are missing some of the real issues behind what is happening.

Gasoline prices are high because demand is outstripping supply. No refiners have been built in the USA in maybe 25 years.

Tanker rates are booming because more volumes are floating to the USA, India and China. Venezuela exports are down and our demand is booming.

Oil is scarce and becoming scarcer. The world demand in this lowest demand point of the season is within a few % of maximum. Many stakeholders are realizing that OPEC's bluster is empty and the cartel will soon be useless. Once OPEC is at full output and prices escalate the cartel wont be needed.

Mainstream media is catching on and USA oil and nat gas producers will benefit tremendously in the future.

I have been saying for a long time here the world has much at stake in Iraq and the Mideast. If terrorism or extortion reduces exports by 5% oil prices go to the moon. Once nations economies are in a free fall there will be plenty of people ready to occupy the oil producing nations.

Filling of the SPR is absolutely essential. When terrorism strike this oil will be invaluable.
