Hysterical emotionalism makes hysterical, emotional people feel better. Like most of the hysterical, emotional posts on SI.

Cheap therapy for the ignorant, the fearful and the confused. If they can lash out at someone else, they feel like they are regaining some of the control that world events are taking away from them.

OTOH, they could take a deep breath, settle down and get a clue about what's really going on and cope OK. But Limbaugh et al made cheap emotionalism (along with ethnic bigotry) fashionable again.

Here's some more hysterical emotionalism:

"And then there's Rumsfeld who said of Iraq "We have our good days and our bad days". We should put this S.O.B. up against a wall and say "This is one of our bad days," and pull the trigger."

The next from Randi Rhodes on Air America:

Rhodes commented that Bush was like Fredo Corleone and that either Poppy or Jeb should take W. out for a fishing trip and blow him away. After imitating the sound of gun going off Rhodes said, "Works for me." Nice.
