The Treasury has calculated a revenue neutral Flat Tax at somewhere between 23% and 24%.

As mortgage interest is not tax-deductible under this proposal, this would mean a huge tax increase for almost all home owners. Those in the lowest income tax bracket, currently 15%, would experience a tax increase of 53% to 60%.

It sure would be a good deal for Steve Forbes though. With a net worth of $1.4 billion he'd love a tax reduction paid for by others.
