Nobody wants to see a oil drilling rig, a new electric transmission tower, an lng terminal or a refinery.

Nobody want's to see energy efficient mass transit either, since for such a thing to be economically viable, high enough density housing needs to go with it. That implies both lower cost housing and resulting strain on public schools.

There is no end to things people don't want in their neighborhood, and I don't think there's a right or wrong decision on many of these issues.

Energy is going to take on "existential" importance for our country going forward. The disorder, which happily hasn't been repeated (so it's out of sight, out of mind) caused by the first Oil Crisis should have been a huge wake up call. And that was nothing compared to what could happen today and in the near future. There is almost no margin in the oil based energy system now, everything is Just In Time. That's not a good way to run things, it's dangerous gambling.
