FACTS MATTER:

U.S. Population -- 4% of the planet's population.

U.S. Energy Consumption -- 25% of the planet's consumption.

U.S. Air Pollution "Contribution" -- ~20% of the planet's foul air.

I like the political arithmetic that Putin is using in the Kyoto debate. It's not about who is really the worst polluter. The Former Soviet Union is the hand's down winner of the prize for "the most ridiculous pollution ever permitted on the planet."

But the irony of having Putin rub George Bush's sulphurous, greasy nose in the pollution debate is a fine thing to savor.

There are few heroes in the pollution debate. George Bush least among them.
