Mike,
You have identified the problem Mike, but have offered no real solution to the quandry which you so accurately portray. For the american people to regain confidence in our leadership, it is up to the President to communicate to us far better than he has.
You are wrong when you discuss ladies panties as the issue. That was the straw. Most americans agree with us that this was more like a hazing prank gone awry than a major issue. But it is symbolic of what went wrong with our policy post Mission Accomplished date. War on the cheap is not a satisfactory policy as your post indicates. And if this war is to be this hard, and we are short manpower then we do have to consider the draft and its implications. This administration has taken the cheap and easy way so folks like those of us on this thread wont have to send their kids. They expected to be able to win this way. It doesnt look possible now. As you said, " We are entering the 3rd year of a war. A time when historically our voluntary enlistments sharply decline. We also have a number of reasons to consider expansion of the war. In short we currently have a divergent set of situations. We have some serious decisions to make to get all of these factors to gel together." mike

There may be a difference in fear, uw. Fear of doing anything/or nothing about terrorism. or...Fear of actually having to participate in doing something about it. or...Fear ...period.

What is interesting to me is that most people who are on the left, and so very vocal about the Bush Adm trying to do something about terrorism, is the left has no alternative plan. Concrete, and achievable plan. Even in protecting the cities or areas where they live.

How many people who are opposed to war are actually doing something to protect the people in the cities, if there is an attack of some sort?

People like McDermott. Or Ramsey Clark. Or Barbra Strisand, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Teddy Kennedy, Tom Daschele, ad nasaum. WHAT are these people doing to ACTUALLY PROTECT the citizens of America???????
