Thank you Doug (and others). So that explains the mystery. I haven't seen this highlighted in the changes that XP made over Win 98.

So - it appears that you can continually add files but cannot clear up space or delete files, until you reach the capacity of the CD-R.

Under Win 98 - I do remember the open/close - finish option and this was what was confusing me as I don't see that option anywhere in the Win XP software.

This seems to be a plus. Is there any downside to this? Is data somehow less secure or more likely to become less stable? Probably not from your logical answer.
