I can assure you that I will not violate the rules of this forum but I reserve the right to respond in kind when anyone, whether on your thread or elsewhere, chooses to attack me personally or makes assertions that are fundamentally offensive to me or that is inaccurate.

It is on this account that I chose to challenge Soumen Barua's comments regarding curtailing the the first amendment rights of CBS and Dan Rather - and why I chose to challenge your outrageous statement that a respected American reporter - Seymour Hersh - is a liar.

I have run this thread for 8 years and rarely I have seen this intensity of venom being spewed

You must either have a memory that is suspect or you are choosing to embellish the reality of the history of this thread. I have not followed this thread for 8 years but I have been been a sporadic visitor for long enough that I have seen numerous ferocious disagreements with several people over the direction of the market. My responses and language with regard to Soumen Barua pales in comparison to some of the language and exchanges that you - and your antagonists - used during various disagreements. In fact, I believe that you were suspended from SI at one time over one of these disagreements and began posting on some other forum.

Now you do recall that before you became an expert on the geopolitics of the Middle East and South Asia and on terrorism, you were the self-professed expert on the stock market, economics and finance - and rarely, if ever, did you admit that you were wrong.

One thing that I have to say for you is that you have a total conviction that you are right about any position that you choose to take no matter what the evidence to the contrary. I know that for a long time, even as the market was collapsing, you kept insisting that the market was headed higher. I don't know if you ever admitted that you were wrong. You now post with similar conviction about politics, terrorism and related matters. Time will tell if you are right or wrong.

As far as my specific responses to the individual you referred to, you need to look at the contents of each post. I take very seriously attempts to curtail our first amendment rights - even if it is the result of ill-considered remarks from a semi-literate poster.
