Re: Belize - Ambergris Caye

It's nice but REAL laid back. Be prepared to bring a book and drink lots.
Now... A snorkel dive that I really recommend is just off Ambergris. It is called "shark ray alley". It's very close and costs a pittance. You will literally push the sharks and the manta rays away with your hands as they skim by your face.

The island of Roatan off Honduras is very similar but has more room to explore. Off Roatan is a small island of Guanaja.

Off Guanaja is a town of about 500 called Bonnaca Key and built on a reef (it's that little green dot beneath the red X ). Quite amazing, doesn't seem to have any foundation, mostly seems to be built on pilings. Nothing to do there however. Visited for 24 hrs. and then peeled out of there pronto.

Anyhoo...Have fun in Ambergris.
