City of Elgin Selects BIO-key Wireless Building Inspection and Code Enforcement Software PocketBP and PocketCE Deliver Real-Time Data From City Hall to Field Inspectors and Code Enforcement Officers -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue May 18 07:00:00 2004 EST MINNEAPOLIS, May 18, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- BIO-key International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BKYI), the leader in finger-based biometric identification technology and mobile and wireless public safety solutions, announced it was chosen to provide real-time data access capabilities to the Department of Code Administration & Development Services for the city of Elgin, Illinois. Building inspectors and code enforcement officers will be using PocketBP and PocketCE developed by BIO-key's Public Safety Division. Building inspectors in the field will use wireless PDAs along with PocketBP (Building Permit) software to perform building inspections, issue permits, and query databases by any combination of permit types, inspection type, dates, inspectors and locations. Code enforcement officers, running PocketCE (Code Enforcement) on their wireless devices, will have real-time access to individual case files. They will be able to create and generate new case files, enter case violations and detail case actions and narratives from the field. "If other municipalities are an indication, PocketBP and PocketCE will take weeks off of the time it takes to complete these public safety administrative tasks," said Don Nagle, VP, General Manager, Public Safety Division. "Two years ago the neighboring city of Naperville, Illinois, implemented PocketBP, generating annual savings of more than $150,000 and helping the city receive the 'Innovation in Government' award from Microsoft," said Nagle. "There is no end to how the Pocket family of software can cut costs and save time," said BIO-key CEO Mike DePasquale. In addition to PocketBP and PocketCE, BIO-key also produces PocketCop(C) which provides first responders access to regional and federal criminal databases and other public safety information. There are more than 60 cities and towns in 6 states using the Public Safety Division software for their police force, building inspectors, code administrators and first responders. Elgin, IL is a suburb of Chicago in Cook and Kane County, Illinois, and has a population of nearly 100,000.
