while there he wrote to someone in the military, I will find out who, if you are interested, asking to become a gunner in the marine air corps. Truly interesting... I didn't know the Marines participated in the strategic bombing of Japan.. The Marine air arm is typically tactical, used for close air support of their troops on the ground. The only aircraft, requiring "gunners", that I have ever heard or read of would be either a dive or torpedo bomber.. not strategic bombers. acepilots.com Maybe you can dig out some of those letters, if you will, and find out what kind of aircraft he served on, and what strategic bombing raids over Japan he participated in.
