During the worst times of the cold war, kennedy met krushchev, LBJ met Kosygin, nixon met breznev and reagan and gorby fell in love. So why cant bush, chirac, schroeder, putin, blair and others sit down and work out iraq difference and go forward with a common policy or AT LEAST TRY.. What is the big deal? Both sides have been proved part right/part wrong on iraq policy. Euros would still be playing footsy with saddam and we are stuck in a semi-quag as they predicted. NATO time.

What does this mean...?

One of the biggest mistakes the Administration made was to take the wrong tone. The arrogance and bullying didn't go over well with folks used to the "nicities" of "diplomacy." By "more collegial" I meant respecting the rituals and respecting other nations as partners even though we know and they know that we are bigger and badder than they are. Tone is important in international relations. Kerry is acknowledging that he understands that. He's saying that he won't be a bull in a china shop like the current administration. It's about vinegar and honey and flies. Walking softly and carrying a big stick.
