The connection I see is spin.

Rush and Hersch are both spinners, subjects of discourse and verbs, but are also in play and being spun, as nouns and objects of discourse, in the public discourse.

I don't listen to Rush but I see the ripple effect, usually first on Free Republic, then Silicon Investor, depending on how appealing today's rant is. People parrot him, and then other people pick up what he said and repeat it, sort of a drum beat effect. It really becomes obvious when people start using a key phrase, like "frat prank" or "context", that they were not using before.

That's one reason why people on the Left say that the Right takes its marching orders from Karl Rove.

Similarly, it's become crystal clear that Hersch broke his stories about Abu Ghraib because Michael Moore had tapes that were going to be put into the new movie, and Hersch didn't want to be yesterday's news.
