Thank you for sharing your story. We are so lucky to have had our dads. I could never have chosen my superb husband, had I not had my father to use as my yardstick of what a man ought to be (or so I believe). My dad wasn't perfect, but it is how men rise above their flaws that marks them as great in my eyes.

I don't think there's any political lesson to be drawn here. My dad saved a man from a burning car with his bare hands, was the first man in his family to go to college, and he's a die hard Republican who used to wear a diamond fat cat on his lapel to show how proud he was to be a capitalist.
