Honestly, Steven -- would it be so terrible to give the Iraqi government --- whatever that means -- control over the army and security services of Iraq?

Not at all, but since the army and security services don't exist, and neither does the government, it's all a bit hypothetical.

When push comes to shove, it ain't our country.

It wasn't. It is now. It became ours when we decided to take it. If we don't want it, we shouldn't have taken it. We knew all along that getting out was going to be a whole lot harder than getting in.

Chalabi is a douchebag, but he's not our douchebag

The only influence he has comes from his connections in the US. If he's not our douchebag he will fade away. If we try to give him enough influence to play a significant role in a new Iraqi government, he will become our douchebag. He'll still be ours when he wears out, which wouldn't take long, and the last thing we need draped around our neck over there is a worn out douchebag.
