"We have already begun initial production of 90nm AMD64 processors, and we are on target to begin shipping 90nm processors for revenue in the third quarter."

Somehow, I read this as being SMACK ON target.

Tony Smith seems willing to fault AMD for inteL's deliberate misuse of the language.

Re: Not good if this read between the lines is true.

What was he expecting, from one day to the next AMD would convert 100% to a new process?

What an idiot.

AMD is in a terrific position, right now. The last thing they should do would be to make a sudden and massive change to anything. AMD can afford a safe, careful, ASP raising, ramp of their 90nm parts.

DRBES,

AMD hints at 90nm ship slip

I interpreted AMD's new language about 90 nm the same way The Register did. Combine this with today's revelations on AMD's 90 nm power dissipation, and it can be reasonably concluded that all is not well with AMD's 90 nm process. At the very least, it has slipped. If true, the shorts will have a field day. Luckily, AMD is far enough ahead of Intel, that a further month or two slip in 90 nm should not be too much of a problem. How the market interprets it is an entirely different story.

Tony Smith is full of sh*t. He's Mr. Pro-Intel at the Reg, and he's just making it up as he goes.

"Ramping 90nm volume production in Q2; Shipping for revenue in Q3" has been the language for the last several updates/confirmations of the schedule.

And then he runs back to the last time the Reg screwed up, when they followed the SiliconStrategies error in misreporting Hector's November remarks.
