Imagine if you will, President Lincoln running the Civil War based on polls of the public. The Confederacy would be a seperate country today if Gallop existed back then. The Federals forged ahead in a very violent campaign against the whole South including all means of production including food production. There were violent draft riots in the North the ones in New York City being very well known. Public opinion was decidedly against the War due to the very high casualty rates. Lincoln very nearly lost the 1865 election. Lincoln has a memorial on the Mall in Washington D.C. today. The Southerners call the Civil War the War of Northern Aggression which is what it really was. The Feds invaded the South. The South did not invade the North. The Feds were told to get out of their country and leave Fort Sumter. The Feds refused.
