Pravin -

Let's not make this a macho thing. A simple guess is enough.

I say December 1st.

AMD reaffirms optimism for 90nm :

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. -- May 18, 2004 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced new additions to the award-winning AMD Opteron™ processor family — Models 850, 250 and 150 — once again equipping servers and workstations with the highest performing two-way and four-way x86 processors. The AMD Opteron processor offers industry-leading 32-bit performance with the power of 64-bit computing.

“Our newest models of the AMD Opteron processor feature Direct Connect Architecture, which supplies benefits and system advantages well beyond extending the instruction set,” said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of the Microprocessor Business Unit, AMD. “Our product line will be further enhanced by our rapid transition to 90 nanometer manufacturing, which will provide us a greater flexibility to boost processor performance, lower power or both. We have already begun initial production of 90nm AMD64 processors, and we are on target to begin shipping 90nm processors for revenue in the third quarter.

I call for August 9

Pravin:

What I recall is that k8/k7 revenue crossover was going to occur in q3 or q4. If one includes Opterons in the equation, it could well occur in q3 if one also includes both 130nm and 90nm k8 product. Given that k8's fetch an ASP about 3 times that of k7's, it just won't take huge acceleration from where AMD is now to achieve k8/k7 revenue crossover!

With a highly successful 90nm transition, not only will revenue crossover occur in q3, but also, k7's will be completely phased out by the end of q2 next year!

First 90nm listing on Pricewatch on August 19!

By the way, I just don't get $14 for AMD given the release of the 250's today and 850's and 150's within 30 days! Heck, with server revenues exploding and MirrorBit revenues accelerating, AMD'll probably post $100M in q2 profit! At $14, the market seems to be expecting a q2 loss!
