I was really torn between thin and light (in weight and features but not on the wallet) and big and bulky (in features but not on wallet).

In the end, the value of the Compaq system won me over (plus it also had the A64 processor!).

I'll let you know how the screen looks when it gets in. I'm hoping for a decent screen, based on the WXGA screen in the same series that I saw at Frys and circuit city.

For essentially the same price that I would have paid retail, I got a higher res screen, IEEE1394, larger battery and bluetooth. How will these brick stores survive?

To make this post relevant to AMD, I was surprised how many offerings where there with really poor Celeron configs. All of those could easily take an AMD AthlonXP-M upgrade for the same price and easily increase performance by 50%.

I was amazed how little choice there really is even if you WANT to buy an AMD laptop. Speaks volumes to the "why is AMD not selling more if the demand is there- must mean that demand is not there or they cannot produce" crowd FUD. AMD is locked out of so many lines that it is not even funny.

I think that once the dam bursts, the upswing in market share will be huge.
