Bush and Kerry Mark Desegregation in Topeka

.....The appearance in this city of a president and his likely Democratic opponent created an undercurrent of competition between the events. Rarely have Mr. Bush and Mr. Kerry been in the same state at the same time.

When Mr. Kerry arrived at the airport to leave Topeka, he was instructed to quickly move his chartered jet off the runway before Air Force One approached and forced a shutdown of airspace. Mr. Kerry bristled when an aide, David Moorehouse, instructed him to hurry and sit down.

"Well, we have to taxi first, David," he responded......
