Art,

It's amazing how really good companies, at the center of an industry cannot see the future, and change their business plan to adapt to a changing marketplace. It's a lesson to all; embrace change, make it your own, and run with it.

Kodak was a really great company. Over the years, they did a lot for the art and craft of photography, really a lot. And I don't think it was all in their own self-interest. I think they worshiped the art of photography.

In the end, it's 80% about management, 50% about being in the right place at the right time, and 50% about the economy. My apology for the math, but everything is more important than it appears. You get one right and it can overcome the others (and the other way around).

Many years ago I heard the CEO of Kodak speak once about the industry (can't remember his name) and was very impressed. I'll tell you about it sometime.

John
