I'm just barely hanging in there. This has been the most vicious market I've seen in many years for the past twoo months.

What saved me was fast selling, and having a limit of losses so I had to sell even the best looking stuff. Those are the same stocks as they were, but we are back to the old days where if you mention your holdings on the Thread they are going to get trashed.

And the amount they went down is far greater than indicated by the averages

But even selling early was not enough. I had taken some profits and moved it out of the reach of the broker.

My attitude is that the days of individual "investor" is nearly over. That the pressure is on to make them turn funds over to a broker to avoid the pain. And to settle for average returns that are even less than the Market averages.

Look at the performance of some good companies, Intel, HPQ, Rambus, Csco, all downhill.

We have been in a period where even the best gets sold when any bad news hits. Just to take the profits.

And its discouraging to a LTBH holder because it could possibly have been some bad news on the company - rather than just profit taking.

At this time I have the right companies for my purposes but it is a real fight to make any gains.

The terrorists, the turnover of Iraq on June 30, the Prisoner treatment, and the election are just adding to the volatility. Provides no clear direction.

Thanks Don, and yep, I tend to agree...think we are going lower....probably alot lower.....the economy is not coming along as expected.....people know interest rates are fixing to rise...the election...the value of the dollar...the deficit...oil prices.... and I could go on and on and on.....Also, as we near the olympics I think we are going to drop pretty good....many people are expecting terrorists to try something...we know that when/if they do strike it will cause the markets to plumett....who wants to be long if that scenario happens? And if not at the olympics, then surely somewhere in our homeland, eventually.......but, what to do, what to do.....I should have cashed out at end of 03 100%, but I didnt, so now I will try and stay 50% vested and 50% cash and write some CC's as I buy a tad of dis and tad of dat as certain stocks hit my buy targets....

I almost can't stop laughing about NTAP.....Yep I am long....They came in with very nice numbers and nice guidance...said they had already bought back a boatload of shares this past quarter and will look to buy about a boatload more back......and what happens to the stock...it gets whacked down <lol>...but remember, you heard it here first...I posted NTAPS good report, guidance and share buyback yesterday and then said " I guess with such a good report we will be able to buy it a good bit cheaper"...I guess folks are taking profits and possibly worried about the high PE, but NTAP over the past 8 or 9 years has always traded at very high xtimes sales........LOL.....
