Intel plans 1.6 bln euro expansion in Ireland

DUBLIN, May 19 (Reuters) - U.S. chip maker Intel Corp (NasdaqNM:INTC - News) plans to invest 1.6 billion euros ($1.92 billion) in its manufacturing operation in Ireland, the Irish government said on Wednesday. Intel's manufacturing plant in Leixslip, outside Dublin, is its main chip production site for the European market and a keystone of foreign investment in Ireland.
Intel, the world's biggest maker of computer chips, began production at Leixslip, County Kildare, in the early 1990s.
