Well, they don't have belts in jail, nor shoelaces, either, so they can't hang themselves or strangle each other, or guards. Some places, they wear two piece suits, more like you see people wearing in hospitals. The inmates wear shower-type shoes and shuffle when they walk.

I know there are different colors for different types of prisoners, and I think orange is high security. Also, I think they'll put them in orange when they are being transported, so they're easy to see.
