Our next interesting race. I have two SD blogs I am reading on this one.

Daschle v. Thune - Herseth Avoiding Daschle
By Jon Lauck

From today's Roll Call:

Herseth has been even more aggressive about separating herself from Daschle. When asked recently about which elected officials most closely resembled her political philosophy, Herseth chose South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson and Ohio Congressman Ted Strickland. ...Herseth’s omission of Daschle as a cited inspiration is noteworthy since she has historically been seen as an acolyte of the South Dakota Senator, who has been the unquestioned leader of the state Democratic Party since his ascension to the Senate in 1986.

"....immediately perceived as ready to be president."

Who was our last vp or president for that matter who was ready to be President on Inauguration Day?
Answer Washington.
Seriously in modern times i would say FDR, IKE, LBJ,. As far as Veeps, VP candidates and pres losers go maybe LBJ, Bush 41, Adlai. I am not judging the presidencies of those above just the perception of being ready for the task. Purely for fun.
