Kerry's Boat Mate Talks About John To be honest, when I first met John Kerry 35 years ago, I was a little skeptical. Here he was a Yale graduate, thinking he could hang in the jungle with a bunch of working class kids. After a few patrols and seeing him under fire, I knew John was more than an officer -- he was a leader. Every day on that swift boat, I put my life in John Kerry's hands. I can tell you from experience, there's nothing like having John Kerry as your commanding officer.
