Okay. Let's go ahead and clarify our terminology now... for later. I think you have a wireless connection, because you said the laptop can see the router. So, you're probably not being issued a DHCP address, which is the next step. Hence, my other questions/suggestions.

In the linksys setup (available at 192.168.1.1) check to make sure that wireless is enabled. There is a feature to turn off wireless.

and then once you have finally connected, enable WEP, 128bit, as quickly as possible
