AMD 64 is x86-64, compatible with x86-32. iTanium 64 is IA-64 based on epic.

They are two different animals. iTanium is pretty much DOA now anyway since Intel announced an AMD copycat chip. Intel was prepared to ram IA-64 down everyones throat and further their monopoly...but x-86 is too easy a transition so they finally had to give in and stick itanium on the back burner.

Microsoft has been dragging their feet on Windows XP-AMD 64 (aka 64 bit extensions) for way too long.
