Rock > You don't understand the American mindset

I'm learning, it's certainly not what it was. In fact, it's hard to understand that how people who have so much can still be so hungry?

> most Americans are brainwashed into thinking that the U.S. is always doing good in the world

<grin> I also grew up on Hollywood movies!

> Patriotism is a very strong force

Some say patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

> A rational foreign policy would be one that removes foreign oil from the the American economy

Halliburton wouldn't like that

> U.S. could put a lot pressure on Isreal to settle their dispute with the Palestinians

Zionists and Christian fundamentalists wouldn't like that

> such moves would kill the two biggest money making industries in the world, oil and arms dealing

Sure

> more money, more profits, more of everything that keeps them in existence

And a few people must die. So what!

Re: A rational foreign policy would be...

...one that removes Israel from the the American mythology altogether, not one that is agressive and attacks countries for Israel's sake. We're certainly at the point politically where it can be done, we can reduce our Zionist prejudice tremendously with decency gains and a new geopolitics. Hence, the U.S. should put much more pressure on Israel to settle their dispute with the Palestinians, like witholding money. But, such moves would kill the two biggest money making industries in the US, religious fanaticism and arms dealing, so don't expect a secular foreign policy out of Washington any time soon. As much as we cringe at these daily reports of carnage from Iraq, the media-military complex loves them, it means more money, more mass control, more of everything that keeps them in existence.

A sad but true assessment of the world in the early 21st Century.
