If that were "indoctrination from the top", the number would be much higher.......

cnyndwllr--Last year a survey revealed that way over 50% (can't remember the exact number--but it was high) of U.S. troops believed that Iraq was responsible for 9/11. That was the indoctrination from the top. Myron

Myron,

From what I've seen, I would guess that 50% OF THIS THREAD believe that Iraq was responsible for 9/11.

Just wait for the response from Bill!

Myron, some things never change. When I was just about through advanced infantry training the army marched a thousand or two of us into a huge auditorium to tell us "why we were fighting in Vietnam." I was understandably curious to hear what they had to say.

Some officer took the stage and is a monotone he explained that we were in Vietnam because S. Vietnam was a member of the Southeast Atlantic Treaty Organization (SEATO) "by protocol." It seems that we were also a member and that we had a mutual defense agreement with the SEATO nations.

When he was all done he asked if anyone had any questions. I was the only one with a question. I asked him, "When you say S. Vietnam is a member of SEATO by 'protocol,' are you saying that they aren't actually a member?" He gave me a long look, shrugged and walked off the stage.

I'd guess that most of the guys there walked away thinking we had a "treaty" duty to defend S. Vietnam. But I didn't, and I knew the officer that gave the speech never had believed it.
