cny, how about if your son was the pilot in the helicopter and was hit by one of those bullets?

I hate to even consider that possibility. I'd wish it was for a better cause that was designed to further some kind of important goal that necessitated going to war.

How would you feel if your whole family and friends were in a wedding party and they got shot up so badly that some of them were literally torn apart. Your wife, your children, your parents, little babies; all dead for what? For shooting off guns in a celebration of the wedding the way it's been done for generations?

Did the pilot have to answer small arms fire without taking a good look? I don't know but depending on the chopper, some of them are pretty well armored against small arms fire. When you're in a situation where there are civilians at risk you must always find a balance between protecting yourself and protecting against shooting the innocent. That's what happens when you take that stick or set up behind those guns.

There will be casualties of war that are innocent. That's why we should never go to war except as a last resort. In this case we have new victims. The dead, the injured, the survivors that loved and cherished those that died and, last and maybe not least, the pilot and crew that will live with this until the day they die.

I regret it all. I wish that some good would come of this that would make it somehow more palatable but I think this entire Iraqi misadventure will all be for nothing. For "Bill" to say the wedding party should get the "Darwin Award" just set me off.
