I leave IE on my machine and just don't use it (but still apply any patches to it that come out from MSFT). You might find some applications want IE around... I have only one that refuses to work with Firefox.

I agree... keep around IE, even if only for the occasional Windows Update. I use Mozilla and Opera as alternate browsers, and have just one web site where I've needed to bring IE up (probably could have used Opera). Big advantage for me of using Mozilla is that everything looks the same on my laptop when I'm running Linux.
