Re: <They are now claiming their Comms group will be profitable next year. They can make that claim because they have the design wins and now those designs are ramping in high volume. They have some very impressive design wins in the wireless market and if those designs turn into high volume as well they will need a great deal of capacity to meet demand. >

Looks like Cometa gave it up.(Do a search on cometa, intel.)

It'll be a small write off for intel, though, under $100M I'd guess.

Chump Change.

Well we do seem to agree that this semi cycle may well turn out to be much longer and stronger than its predecessor owing to the new thrusts in wireless technology, cell phone video, the wholesale replacement cycle associated with the transition to 64-bit computing and the phenomenal rate of economic growth taking place in China and India!

Looks to me like AMD has positioned itself about as well as any company can with its "here and now" products and compelling features to catch the wave that appears to be rapidly building now. INTC seems to be spinning a bit right now, but their resourcefulness should ultimately see them through! Looks like INTC's got their hands full though in any attempts at taming the new AMD tiger in the short and medium term!

By all recent accounts of Opteron's phenomenal evolution and takeup, AMD is looking at a minimum of 50% revenue growth in FY04, and 50% may prove to be very conservative if I'm reading current Opteron and MirrorBit signals accurately!
