>>U.S. Raids Iraqi National Congress Headquarters, Council Says

May 20 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. soldiers today raided the headquarters of the Iraqi National Congress party in Baghdad, according to Hamid al-Kifai, spokesman for the country's U.S.- appointed Governing Council.

Ahmad Chalabi, a member of the Governing Council, founded and heads the party. Chalabi's house is in the same building as the party headquarters, al-Kifai said by telephone from Baghdad. He said he didn't know the reason for the raid, whether there were any arrests or whether the operation had ended.

U.S. soldiers raided Chalabi's house to look for fugitives, the Associated Press said, citing Haidar Musawi, one of Chalabi's aides. The agency cited unidentified neighbors as saying members of Chalabi's entourage were taken away. Iraqi police accompanied American forces in surrounding the building, AP said.

A U.S. military spokeswoman in Baghdad, who declined to be identified, said she was awaiting confirmation of the raid. The telephone line for Chalabi's office was busy.

U.S. funding for Chalabi's party will be ended on June 30, the day the U.S.-led coalition transfers sovereignty to Iraq, ``by mutual consent,'' he has said. The U.S. has said it's cutting off monthly payments of $340,000 to the INC as part of the process of handing over power. <<

Perhaps, CB. But then I personally wish ALL churches, synagogues, mosques, etc etc would stay out of government issues. Period.

FWIW, looking up the strictly "Penacostal" denominations, it seems like there are about 600,000 members in the US...less than a mid size city. So don't worry.

As far as the picture...OK. But then there are probably many churches that have pictures of Presidents. Look at all the churches Mr. Clinton went to....ample opportunities for photo ops.

Number Catholics in US: approx 50,873,000 million -self identified

Pentacostal/Charismic/FourSquare: approx 4,407,000 - self-identified

And again, I do agree that US foreign policy NOT be conducted by ANY organized Religion.

Re definition of Apostolic: (seems to fit many churches I can think of....
Definition of Congress: Gathering of people. (as you know)

It refers to the premise that all true Christians belong to a single united group, which was founded by the apostles and which remains holy. However, opinions vary within different parts of Christianity on how to define or interpret that grouping. In this case, "catholic" means universal (from the Greek katholikos).
The Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Churches, and the Anglican Communion claim that the phrase is explicitly referring to an unbroken and personal lineage from Christ and his disciples symbolized in the laying on of hands when a priest is ordained. This is the Apostolic Succession
