He developed pulmonary fibrosis, his immune system started attacking his lungs. Got to where 15' was his limit on walking even on oxygen. His condition isn't one where they do transplants as the new lungs may also be attacked. OTOH, it was proposed he could get a smoker's lung because they don't use them in normal transplants. While waiting he developed pneumonia and went into a coma. He's over the pneumonia but still in a coma and too weak to be operated on. His heart and kidneys are dying from lack of oxygen now. As I recall, he's 53.
