I don't get your point.

The story is all over the place, depending on the reporter and the medium. So what else is new?

Are you telling me that the truth lies in some report but not in another? If so, your chrystal ball and ESP are a lot better than mine.

Things like this get all bollixed up in the telling. Give it a few days, and we might see a more factual version, one that is a bit more reliable. As things stand, there no telling what happened.

The US military says that there was no wedding party, that a ground force battling insurgents got fired upon, and that air support was called in to blast the insurgents, who were in a safe house. That was never part of the original report.

voanews.com

The area has been the scene of hard pitched battles between insurgents and US forces. Many of the insurgents are believed to be coming from Syria.

Th article I linked pointed out that initial impressions are often wrong but nonetheless believed. They form a folklore of "fact" that is often wrong. Because our attention is naturally drawn to these first reports, we often end up adopting as fact things that are pure fantasy.

The author called for us to be more discerning, less passionate, and a bit more circumspect in reaching immediate judgments.

It's not a bad idea, in fact it is a very good idea.

I don't claim to know what happened. Do you honestly think you do?
