I am with you.

I think I said my piece a bit badly. I only wanted to say there are two kinds of debates. One debate is a serious philosophical one in which we argue about shared communal responsibility versus only family responsibility. That's important, interesting, but not particularly relevant for "political pros" conversations. A second depends upon how one answers the first. For those who think there is a serious communal role, then the question is one of "best practices" within some tax parameters. For those who think there should be no communal responsibility, it's more the sorts of things Karen mentioned--insurance policies, co-ops (hadn't thought of that), charity, etc. My guess is this topic is also not exactly critical for "political pros."

Oh-oh, John. You're in for it now. JohnM is busily constructing, and just as busily dismissing, meta-debate frameworks. Let us see if he ever forms a framework for an actual debate that he wants to partake in.

Experience says, never.
