What makes you think that in 12 years with the marines, 3 of it in boot camp training, he'd never "seen war before"?

From his description of the Iraqi war it appeared to me he had not seen conflict and its collateral damages before. If he had previous combat experience, I doubt Iraq was any different.
If he had previous combat I will apologize to any man that has been there and done that. Otherwise this whole article sound and looks like a bunch of BS to me.
