LATAM knows the real US much better than places like Asia, Eastern Europe and Middle East. Asia is too far away. Eastern Europe still harbors second thoughts about Russia and prefers to play by the US rules. But LATAM has been on the receiving end far too long. Not receiving in terms of military conflicts but suffering bad influence and the dirty tricks of the US defending the Somozas Banzers and Stroessners of this world. While Canada could be dealt easily, because they share the English language, LATAM was different story. The US didn’t understand LATAM and LATAM didn’t understand the US. Militarily speaking, the US has always been clever enough of not venturing out of the small islands of the Caribbean when they wanted to use the big stick. It is simple, the money interests are too big to be disturbed. Basically LATAM can do whatever they want the US can't do anything about beyond take the money away and run every ten years or so. Today there is not many secrets. When a guy writes an article we already know he's being paid to do it for slating the news. And journalists from countries like Scotland and Sweden are the most likely to be in the payroll of the US since they don’t carry too much a political baggage like an American journalist and can slant the news without much problem. Besides that LATAM has not this awe people look to the US: WOW! You know, they tend to be more like myself. US is very basic and predictable for us to worry about them. The US is more visible than strong, you know they write in the English language, Hollywood... An dwe know the US is returning to its natural size of 15% of the global GNP and has to use more diplomats tha soldiers, like verybody else.

Forgot about US and Western Europe! Europeans as long as the money was coming as the US kept those forces in Europe during the Cold War and a constant fixed soldiers-tourists spending money there and the Europeans want them to stay there 'defending'. You know, you’d buy a house with a mortgage, rent it to an American of the military base nearby and he would pay the house for you. Of course those soldiers were welcome!! Not many US troops touring Europe and the Germans decided to act more boldly. You see it is different perspective that you get from Elmat and no where else. I can't avoid -at times to tap my own back! <VBG>
