Rock_nj, well said!

However; war is an excellent business.
Where else can you mark up a common towel 400% above standard retail and sell it as necessary military gear courtesy of the US taxpayer? Where else can you have HAL selling gas to the US military for 2.65 per gallon, while the same gas is purchased for 5-15 cents per gallon in Iraq or brought in cheaply through Kuwait. Bechtel’s contracts along with select few others in Iraq may reach the 100 billion mark, nice beneficiary from this war..

War, especially in that region has been a huge windfall for the military industrial complex and oil company cartel. Exxon is about to pass GE as the world's largest Corp. (oil at $41/barell}. In return these two major groups fund re-election campaigns and powerful lobbies that only aim to perpetuate their interests. It is a nice closed loop system that has been working very well for a very long time. Common folks are asleep at the wheel; major media helps to keep it that way....
Just follow the money trail.... after all; the business of America is business.

few references, tip of the iceberg:

The early contracts would give Bechtel and others a prime position to win $25 billion to $100 billion in contracts over the entire reconstruction...

money definitely talks... nice return on investment
