That prison was run so bad, they could have had a bunch of martians and they probably wouldnt have known. Some here were worried about the broad brush of the patriot act, if there was a lack of supervision. In Iraq thats what occurred. Future inmates ran the prison and they didnt have the intelligence or tools to separate al quaeda, insurgents, baathists etc. After all they all looked alike to them and the real INTEL folks were not active there it seems. The only inference I can draw from that combination of events is that the prisoners in question were nobody know-nothings who could not be justified as warranting more strenuous treatment. I would like to see it covered directly, though.

Since the MI pressure on them was stepped up last fall during the hunt for Saddam, I assume that most of them were Ba'athists, ex government mukhabarat, that sort of thing (which helps to explain the low Iraqi sympathy for them). But again, why is this left lying? Who doesn't want to remind us that these guys were not picked up for traffic violations? Indeed, the ONLY discussion I've heard about reasons for incarceration involves guys who say they were picked up for nothing by mistake.
