Actually the gas stations would normally run out only if prices are controlled. If prices are allowed to float freely then except for the most sudden and severe shortages the gas stations would just charge a lot more for gas. Instead of the $1.95 that I paid for my last fill up I might have had to pay $3 or maybe $10 per gallon, if there was a shortage, but if you had the $10 per gallon there probably would be gas available.
