he two did not stand up to Saddam. When called upon you backed down .

Because Saddam was not the threat he was made out to be.

That argument only holds water if you assume Saddam had to be dealt with right then. We could have easiliy waited another decade, or let him do a Ghadaffi-like rehabilitation.

Anyway, checks and balances doesn't mean that two gang up to beat up a third.
