To: elpolvo who wrote (46917 ) 5/21/2004 8:48:37 PM From: Crocodile Respond to of 89467 i'm assuming this is shot with a hi-8 palmcorder or something similar - NOT DV cam. there's a time counter visible on the edited footage that starts at 13:**:**, then changes to 02:**:** and then back to 13:**:** at the end. that time counter would be enough to identify the model of camera used. it's either shot with two different identical cameras or two different tapes or it's edited way out of time sequence. huh? WHAT? WHY? Yes, that's what I've read about the time counter, etc... Doesn't make much sense. I figured it for a hi-8 or a cheap mini-DV camcorder as they're small and everyone is running around with them these days. Also, so easy to edit the footage and/or prepare it for the web using just about any computer . Again, the level of quality is generally so high on all of these small consumer camcorders (Hi-8 or mini-DV), that even under the worst shooting conditions, the footage would probably be fairly decent. But I agree, the loss of quality probably happened during compression to prepare it for the web -- very convenient if they intended to make it turn out crappy looking. Anyhow, maybe I'll drop around to a couple of indie film discussion groups and see what some of those people are saying as most have worked with all kinds of low-end cams and editing programs. No doubt, some of the posters will have some interesting opinions. If I come across anything, I'll post it here. One thing that I was also thinking about the footage being hosted on the web is that, depending on who put it up, you would kinda think there would have been a trail that would have been quite easy to follow -- from computer to whatever website host the footage was uploaded onto? One would kind of think that, if the U.S. has much control at all over the phone lines, cable, or whatever in Iraq, then they could trace that kind of a data transfer right back to the computer that the film was uploaded from. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I don't think so. croc
