Sounds like you had some great fun....I love Italia....I did my first two years of college in the south east part of Switzerland and on weekends we often used to make the two hour drive to Milano for a simple tomatoes and cheese Pizza...it was the best...also toured the Florence and Genoa area which is probably where you were...

I did the driving thru the mountains and those small windy Swiss and Italian roads with my first car ever a 1958 VW Beetle or "Herbie"....the oldest car on campus....she was some tough car that used to make strange cranky noises when it stopped :) it had no gas gauge so you never knew when you'd run out of gas but there was a spare I gallon that you turned on when out which was just enough to take you to the closest gas station :) It was hardly touring the area like the Easy Rider you are...cheers and welcome back....
